Yesterday Was Already Tomorrow

The story of our property is romantic.

After arriving in Mexico on September 4, 1862 as a soldier under Maximilian, one of Brigitte’s ancestors settled in Mexico City where he married a French woman. One of his grandsons, Henri Emile, wanted to become an agricultural engineer and went to study in Switzerland at the agronomic institute in Fribourg. His health problems led the young man to stay with a family friend, the priest of Puisseguin, to benefit from the fresh air in the countryside.

In this small village, Henri Emile was doubly seduced: first by a young girl, Yvette, whose family owned Château Guibot La Fourvieille, then by the adjoining estate, Château Guibeau, which he bought in 1936. The marriage of Henri Emile and Yvette united the two properties, which today form a single estate with 45 hectares: 38 hectares in the Puisseguin Saint-Emilion appellation, and 7 hectares in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation.

Henri Emile’s son, Henri, managed the vineyard and improved winemaking techniques until 2009, when he handed down the property to his daughter, Brigitte, and his son-in-law, Eric.

Brigitte was born and raised at Château Guibeau. Today, she feels she has the immense privilege to live there with her family and manage the estate with her husband Eric. They are continuing the traditions of winemaking know-how and the expression of terroir, which they hope to pass on to future generations.
